Children in Care: ‘My Books My Story’ exhibition in the Highcross Shopping Centre, Leicester

The Virtual School's Year of Reading has come to a close after 12 months of highlighting the joy of reading to our children in care.

The Year of Reading has involved summer reading challenges, storytelling sessions in the forest, online year 5 and 6 reading groups, book review competitions and book recommendations and resources which have been shared in the Leicestershire Fostering News newsletters.

We have been delighted to work in partnership with Steph Strange, Community Participation worker, who not only created a brilliant video resource "Blooming Books" for foster carers but also created the final event of the year: ‘My Books My Story’.

I am sure that you will be equally as 'blown away' as us by what you see when you visit the exhibition in the Highcross Shopping Centre. The exhibition is beautifully designed and features the children's work inspired by books they have read, and their quotes, which are wonderful to see and read.

Please try to visit and support our children and Steph. The exhibition is open from 30th March until the 24th April, Wednesday to Sunday from 10am-2pm (Closed bank holidays) and is in a shop on the upper floor almost opposite the Apple Store. I am sure you will be impressed.

I want to say a massive thank you to Steph who has worked so hard over the past year to create an amazing showcase of work by our super talented children in care.

Tony Barnard, Virtual Head Teacher
