Audit tools

An annual programme of audits will help demonstrate that key policies and practices are being implemented, updated and adhered to appropriately.

In most settings, regular audit of practice and constructive feedback to employees, has a beneficial role to play in developing the working practice of employees as well as providing assurance that practice is in line with organisational policy.

Nationally developed audit tools

The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) has developed a range of audit tools. They include: tools for specific care settings eg, nursing and residential homes, learning disability care homes and day centres, and hydrotherapy pools; and tools for specific practice eg, standard precautions, isolation precautions, aseptic technique and a suite of hand hygiene tools.

Some audit tools can be accessed free of charge, but membership of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) is needed to access all tools.
