Continuing healthcare is free care given over an extended period of time to meet the physical or mental health needs of adults with a disability, injury, or illness. It is sometimes called fully funded NHS care.
It is only available for people that meet the eligibility criteria. The National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS Funded Nursing Care explains the rules and sets out the criteria for eligibility, and includes a number of tools to help clinicians and practitioners with the decision making process.
