Job description:

Job Title: Pre-school Assistant Reports To: Pre-school Manager and Deputy Pre-school Manager Responsible for: Key children Opening hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 3pm with early sessions from 8:30am available daily.

Term time only. Hours: Ideally 19 hours per week (but open to reduced hours if required), between the hours of 8am – 3:30pm (although flexible working will be considered).

Salary: £11.62 per hour for a Level 3 qualified practitioner.

Purpose of the job: To provide safe, high quality education and care for early years children. To fulfil legal and statutory requirements. To work with children on a day-to-day basis providing the best quality care. To contribute to and to implement early years policies. To ensure that all statutory, legal and setting obligations are followed and met. Safeguarding requirement: Burton on the Wolds play group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is a requirement of all staff that they share this commitment and follow the prescribed policy and procedures to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding across the whole organisation.

Main duties:

To work alongside existing staff to curriculum plans which take into account the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and to monitor the effectiveness of the setting’s curriculum; this may include working with external professionals.

To be responsible for providing a high quality of education and learning to offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children attending the setting.

To provide a high standard of care to children in the setting. To provide an inclusive environment for those children with additional needs.

To implement the daily programme of activities and events.

To keep clear observational notes for the children in the setting including their own key children.

Take responsibility for the learning journeys of their key children.

To complete all other paperwork necessary such as progress summaries.

To ensure that the welfare and safety of children is promoted within the setting and that any child protection concerns are always acted upon appropriately and immediately.

To ensure records are properly maintained and updated, e.g. accident and incident records.

To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement. To ensure that Burton on the Wolds Pre-school Playgroup is a safe environment for children, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times.

To contribute to and to implement all early years policies and procedures, e.g. register and signing out procedures, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality, food safety, setting hygiene as advised by the manager.

To ensure that children attending the setting receive a balanced and healthy diet.

To attend any training events or meetings, as identified by the manager and to keep up-to-date with current good practice.

To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the manager in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.

The post holder is also expected to be flexible and adaptable in their approach to fulfilling their duties.

Experience and qualifications:

At least two years’ proven experience of working in an early years care and education setting/ other suitable experience. Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent. Previous experience of working with children with additional needs is desirable but not essential.

Creativity, understanding of child development, good communication skills, active listening skills, time management, collaborative, professionalism, patience, initiative, teamwork, knowledge of the curriculum & current legislation, computer literate, commitment to safeguarding & equal opportunities.
