Working in wraparound roles before or after school offers flexibility and a chance to share your passion whether that’s sports, art or nature. There are plenty of opportunities. What’s involved Wraparound childcare is looking after primary school aged children before and after school. For example, in breakfast clubs and regular after-school clubs. This usually means during term time and until 6pm or later. It can also refer to childcare and activities in the school holidays. Hours Wraparound childcare employers often offer flexible hours ranging from:
• part-time during term time only
• full-time work across the term time
• school holidays Expected Hours per week:
Salary can be based on a number of different things such as qualification, experience or age. Anyone working in these roles will need to pass enhanced DBS checks. You may also need to show that you have experience working with young children. No specific qualifications are required, but some employers may want you to have a level 2 qualification (equivalent to a GCSE). You’ll also need to complete safeguarding training when you start the job. Main duties include:
• You will need to follow and comply with registration requirements and guidelines of Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills)
• As a wraparound playworker providing care for before & after-school care for reception aged children, you must meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework: Section 3 - Safeguarding and Welfare requirements. For older children, you must comply with the requirements of the Childcare Register.
• To deliver a suitable programme of imaginative and innovative activities suitable to the needs and interests of children age 4- 11 yrs old • Consulting with children and involving them in planning activities.
• If a pack away club, then setting up the play space including moving furniture and play equipment.
• Keeping the work environment healthy, safe and secure..
• Assist with the preparation and delivery of quality play opportunities within a safe, stimulating and caring environment.
• To assist with the planning, preparing and delivery of activities, which meet children’s individual developmental needs. • To ensure the safe collection and transportation of children between the school and the club.
• To work face to face with children that are registered at the club
• Prioritise the safeguarding of all children in your care.
• Providing comprehensive care for the children, including greeting them after school and delivering them safely to parents or careers at the end of the day.
• Providing refreshments and ensuring that hygiene, health, and safety standards are met.
• Administering first aid when necessary.
• Encouraging parental involvement in the club.
• Facilitating good communication with all members of the organisation, parents, and schools.
• To assist in the administration of the club, keeping relevant records and ensuring that the agreed club procedures are implemented. • Undertaking appropriate and relevant training.
• Working within the framework of the club’s policies and procedures.
Experience and qualifications:
• Experience of working within a play-based setting with 4-11 year olds and their families Knowledge and understanding of child development. • Understanding and commitment to good quality childcare • Understanding the varied needs of children and their families
