Applications are now open for the Sutton Trust Summer Schools – free summer residentials for year 12 students!

Sutton trust run free summer residentials at 13 of the top universities across the UK – all are free and transport costs are usually covered too. There are 40 subject options so you should find something to suit you. Lots of looked after young people attend along with other groups of students who have other reasons why they might benefit from finding out a bit more about uni before applications processes start in the Autumn. A great chance to find out more and something really good to write about in a personal statement too. UCL Masterclasses (applications open now!)
UCL Masterclasses are a range of online, subject-specific, hour-long sessions for students in Year 12 to get a taste of university. Sessions run weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays (4-5pm) from January to April, and will feature an interactive lecture on a specific topic from UCL academics and students. This is a great opportunity for students wanting more activities to write about in their personal statement. 

Newcastle Virtual Student Experience (sign up now!) 
On Wednesday 17th January 2024 you can join Newcastle University's Virtual Student Experience and discover what Newcastle University is really like – all from the comfort of home! Learn about applications, the PARTNERS scheme and how it could get you a lower offer, extra student finance, health and wellbeing support, and help while living in Newcastle. A perfect way to explore a university a bit further away without needing to travel!

Durham Futures in STEM Programme (31st Jan application deadline)
Futures in STEM provides two years of free online academic tutoring and pastoral support to Year 12 students. The programme is designed for students considering studying Chemistry, Maths or Physics at University, and guarantees a conditional offer to study one of these degrees at Durham University upon completion. 

Leeds Skill Up in Theatre and Performance (application deadline 25th Feb)

‘Skill Up in Theatre and Performance’ is a programme for Year 12 students interested in finding out more about life as a Theatre and Performance undergraduate as well as the career opportunities that this course can offer. This two-day on campus experience will take place on 26-27 March 2024. 

Insight Into Bristol Summer School (application deadline 6th March)
This free summer school offers Year 12 students the opportunity to experience student life at the University of Bristol. Participants will stay in university accommodation and take part in academic seminars and social activities, supported by current undergraduate students. They will meet student societies and learn more about what university life is really like. A virtual summer school is also available. 

Leeds Discover Articulation Challenge 2024 (submission deadline 21st March) 

The Discover Articulation Challenge is an annual competition dedicated to engaging students aged 16-19 with art, and developing their confidence and ability to express their opinions, thoughts and ideas. Students are invited to submit a 2-3 minute film of themselves speaking about a work of art, an artefact or a piece of architecture of their choice. Successful candidates will be invited to Leeds for our campus day finale in June 2024. An excellent opportunity to include in your personal statement!
