To recruit our PAG members, we circulated a survey, inviting community members to express their interest in joining the group.
We received 22 expressions of interest, each offering valuable perspectives and a strong willingness to contribute to shaping public engagement for the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). We carefully selected six individuals, aiming for a balance of backgrounds, lived experiences and viewpoints relevant to our work.
Due to the high number of females interested in joining the PAG, we decided to reserve two places for male members. To do this, we shared this opportunity with our internal and external networks and at the Public Assembly event hosted in March 2025.
We were proactive in trying to complete our PAG and are very excited now this has been accomplished.
Reaching and involving underrepresented communities is often difficult, resulting in advisory groups that don't fully reflect the diversity of the populations they aim to serve. This can lead to a limited range of insights and perspectives in public decision making. We were mindful of this in our recruitment, and worked intentionally to build a group that better represents the communities as a whole.
With our new member joining the team, we’ll continue having inclusive dialogue, co-producing and shaping policy and practice that truly reflect the needs and values of our communities.
We have embedded a PAG member into each of our HDRC areas to continue to feed into current and future work and to ensure that work is co-produced from the beginning.
We'll also be hosting another strategy day to co-produce and strengthen our Public and Community Involvement, Engagement and Participation (PCIEP) strategy. If you would like more information about our approach to PCIEP, please email sacha.webb@leics.gov.uk
