STEM Taster Day at De Montfort University

In November, five young people attended a STEM taster day at the De Montfort University.

The aim of the day was to give students an understanding of science, technology, engineering and maths subjects and careers available to them through higher education. This was also an opportunity to ask current students questions and to find out about university life. The day was broken up into three sessions, each with a different focus such as maths and psychology.

The sessions included activities such as creating a container with as little material as possible to transport precious cargo, donning their investigative hats and working out who had stolen valuable fish from the school aquarium, and using eyewitness testimonials in a robbery case. Feedback from the young people who attended was very positive, they said the day was very interesting and they had enjoyed learning something new about university. It was great to see them engaging with the sessions, and working together as a team. They did really well especially in the precious cargo activity, and they came second out of 5 teams! Very well done.
