Young Voices workshops

We held workshops across Leicestershire schools to hear about young people's priorities within their local areas to support community health and wellbeing.

HDRC Leicestershire partnered with Loughborough University to deliver 3 workshops in schools across Leicestershire. We co-designed the workshops with the help of youth facilitators, HDRC and Loughborough University staff. The workshops encouraged young people to explore wider determinants of health and identify priorities within their local areas.

We analysed their input and, with input from our HDRC Public Advisory Group, 6 themes were identified.

The 6 youth themes are:

  1. Spacious, affordable and modern housing
  2. Community, safety, and protection
  3. Protecting, using, and living in the countryside and other green space
  4. Fun and friends
  5. Spaces and places that influence health behaviours
  6. Proximity to wants and needs

These themes were combined with desktop review and wider public assembly to set key research priorities for HDRC Leicestershire.

This work was supported by funding from the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and Leicester University’s Institute for Precision Health, alongside time from Loughborough University colleagues and the HDRC Leicestershire team.

Leicestershire Matters

We held workshops across Leicestershire schools to hear about young people's priorities within their local areas to support community health and wellbeing.

The HDRC Leicestershire Research to Reality training series concluded a successful year in September with 94 attendees across the four-session series.

We have filled the final spot on our Public Advisory Group (PAG), forming a diverse panel of eight members. This is an important step towards ensuring our work is informed by a broad range of public voices and lived experiences.

Young people in three Leicestershire schools will have the opportunity to have their say in the future of health research and meet a Great British Bake Off star as part of a new project.

Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Leicestershire hosted its first event with members of the public in March 2025.

We're introducing a series of learning sessions to help improve research skills.
